Bentley boss Wolfgang Duerheimer at last year's Shanghai Show. Bentley has revealed that China has now overtaken the US as its biggest market with 578 sales in the first quarter of 2012 – up 84.9 per cent. Bentley introduced us the the ‘Green’ Bentley Continental Supersports at the Geneva Motor Show in February, and they are now out shaking the car down in Europe – our snappers caught the Supersports out on the road near the Nurburgring. Clearly identifiable as a Supersports from the bonnet vents and the huge air scoops at the front, this 621bhp monster is due to go on sale in the UK in the New Year. Bentley engineers have increased the output of the Supersports to a really massive 621bhp by fettling the new Bentley to run on Bioethanol E85 and the modification of the injectors and valves, allowing the same performance whether the car is run on E85 or regular petrol.
The Pagani Huyra set a stunning record time on the Top Gear track last week and in the process laid down a marker for the new McLaren P1. The return of Top Gear at the weekend for Series 19 saw Richard Hammond get to grips with the Pagani Huayra – successor to his beloved Zonda – and after a thoroughly positive test drive Hammond handed over to the Stig to take the Huayra round the Top Gear track. In the hands of the Stig, the 6.0 litre V12 AMG engine with 730 horses powered the Huayra to a time of just 1:13.8, beating the previous record for a production car, held by the Ariel Atom V8, by a sizeable 1.3 seconds.
